Energy efficient lighting not only saves you money on your electric bills but it is also better for the environment. There are many different types of energy efficient light bulbs including: halogen incandescents, CFLs, and LEDs.
Halogen incandescents save 25% of energy versus traditional light bulbs. These meet the minimum of the Federal Energy Efficiency Standard. This type of light bulb has a capsule inside that holds gas around a filament.
CFLs save 75% of energy that would be lost from traditional light bulbs. These light bulbs are curly long tubs florescent lights. Energy-Star CFL light bulbs use one fourth of the energy incandescent bulbs use and will last ten times longer. They use one third of the energy halogen incandescent bulbs use.
LED light bulbs use less than 25% of the energy used by incandescent lighting. LEDs are semi-conductors that convert electricity into light. They are the most energy efficient lighting.
